Believe me, I am in no way exaggerating when I say that I have been hunting down this Becca Prismatic Amethyst highlighter since I first heard that it was being released in the UK. Marketed as “the unicorn highlight”, I just knew I had to get my paws on it.
I am quite lucky in the sense that I have a Space NK on my doorstep which I could pop into each month (coinciding with then I get my eyebrows done by the lovely Benefit) to see if they had the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter in Prismatic Amethyst… you can imagine my excitement when the sales assistant finally said they did have stock out the back. I was also lucky enough to have swatched the gorgeous highlight at work from a friend who had recently purchased it. This meant that I knew already what it looked like on my skin and the fact that my local store didn’t have a tester didn’t phase me!
Honestly, the Prismatic Amethyst highlighter is a dream on my skin tone. The lilac hues match perfectly with my lighter hair and skin and it has finally created an actual glow on my skin! It looks quite purple on photos around the web but it is honestly a lot more subtle than it looks. It definitely “creates a captivating light effect that transforms as you move”… almost like a hologram on your cheek bones *love*. The glow switches between a gorgeous lilac to a silver. It’s completely changed my opinion on the Becca highlighters as I was beginning to get disappointed; I have the shade “moonstone” but it barely showed up on my skin, I think it matched it too much so didn’t give me my desired effect, as I said previously, I couldn’t quite get a proper “glow on”. My only highlighter that I was reaching for was my trusted Laura Geller Baked Gelato Swirl; I wanted something else I could reach for and admire as much as my Charming Pink Illuminator from Laura Geller… Becca Prismatic Amethyst has definitely delivered on that front.
The formula goes on like a dream but I do find that it disappears quite quickly… I’m not sure if that’s just what happens with a highlight during the day, or whether I am not prepping the base properly but it can be a bit of a downer when it’s gone. It’s like going from a majestic unicorn to normality in the space of a day… boo! However, that is the only fault with the Becca Prismatic Amethyst highlighter and hardly a major one as you can just top it up throughout the day. I also love that it isn’t intensely pigmented so you can really work with it. It can be subtle or you can layer it up for a more eye-catching glow.
Overall, I absolutely love this highlighter and am thrilled that I managed to get my paws on it. For the price of £32, it’s every bit worth it as I honestly have found my dream highlight.
