Ever since Nyx Cosmetics became available online via Boots, and in some stores around the UK, I have been dying to get my paws on these soft matte lip creams. I had read so much about how great they are and they sounded like the perfect matte lip product. At first, the only lipsticks available were the lingerie lipsticks (see my review here) which were lovely but are only covering the nude bases. With my Gerard Cosmetics liquid lipsticks, I was pretty much covered on the nude bases of matte products and was desperate to try out some different shades. This is what attracted me to the Nyx soft matte lip creams. The range of colours they have available is simply amazing so once they came in stock on the website, I ordered four shades which I wanted to try out for myself.
The formula of all of the matte lip creams is lovely; it dries down to a gorgeous matte very quickly and does not feel too drying on my lips. As it is a matte lip product, there will be some aspect of drying but, due to its cream-like consistency, it is not as bad as other matte products. At first, I was worried when applying as the formula seemed quite “bitty” and “clumpy” but I was proved wrong as it went onto my lips fine and did dry down and stick to my lips which was what I wanted. The only thing I would say is the doe foot applicator is not the best. A lot of the product sticks to the end of the applicator which can make it difficult to apply. When I am trying to get a precise line, a lot of the product comes off due to the applicator and can end up looking quite messy.
Nyx Cosmetics Matte Lip Cream in Abu Dhabi
First up is a nude shade; I know I have just exclaimed how I was covered on the nude matte lip base but I needed to try out Abu Dhabi as it was talked about so much. It is a gorgeous brown nude which is very similar to the likes of Mac’s Velvet Teddy – perhaps a tiny bit of a lighter nude. I was pretty apprehensive about purchasing this shade as I thought it might wash me out (pale skin people, is it not terrifying trying out nude lipstick shades?) but I am pleasantly surprised as it does just look like a perfect brown-nude shade which I adore.
Nyx Cosmetics Matte Lip Cream in Rome
I think that Rome is one of their newer edition to the Matte Lip Cream collection but it is such an unusual and lovely shade. It is a gorgeous mauve shade and is very easy to wear. Being a toned down mauve, this shade is so suitable for everyday wear and I am loving wearing it with my different eyeshadow looks. I would say that the base tone of this matte lip cream is brown but it does appear like a beautiful dusty rose colour on my skin tone which is unlike any other shade in my lip collection; the closest I could mention is Mac’s Captive which is still a lot brighter and less muted than Rome. It truly is a one of a kind shade which is always great for a collection.
Nyx Cosmetics Matte Lip Cream in Amsterdam
As soon as I set my eyes on the Nyx Cosmetics Matte Lip Cream collection, I knew I had to try out one of the red shades. Amsterdam drew my eye from the get go as it appeared to be the perfect true red. I am going to say that I am a teeny bit disappointed though. I was expecting a Mac Ruby Woo shade in a matte lip cream bottle but it definitely has a slight pink undertone which I am not too sure on. The only thing I would say is that it is definitely unlike any other shade of red in my collection. I have Mac’s Russian Red, Ruby Woo and Diva and none of these are as bright as Amsterdam so at least I have a new red. I am still playing around with that make-up I think it would go with as it is so bright and unlike anything I would usually wear; I am enjoying giving it a try though.
Nyx Cosmetics Matte Lip Cream in Madrid
I saved the best to last with the shade Madrid. It is a gorgeous deep red which I absolutely adore on my skin tone. Heading towards the likes of Mac’s Diva, this shade is a deep, vampy shade and one which probably isn’t the best for the upcoming Summer but I don’t care as I love it. I have been wearing it the most out of all of the shades that I purchased and I think it suits me really well and melds well into the look I usually reach for. The only thing I would say is that, due to it’s dark nature, it can go on a bit patchy but I find after two coats that it looks perfectly fine. I am also so impressed by how long it actually lasts on my lips when compared with my favourite mac lipsticks.
I think the Nyx Cosmetics Matte Lip Creams are definitely well worth the purchase as they are so cheap on Boots and are actually really great lip products. Not to mention, I am forever impressed by the wide range of colours that they actually offer. Usually, matte lip products do not come in such a wide range of colours which can be quite aggravating but this is not the case with the Nyx matte lip creams. Consider me sold.
