Confession – this review is going to be good from the outset as I am a huge fan of Bare Minerals. I started using Bare Minerals around three years ago and I have never looked back or even considered another product for my skin. In November of 2012, I had a serious case of guttate psoriasis. I was covered head to toe in swollen rashes and it was possibly the worst thing that could happen to someone who had just started university; I could not walk around without immense pain due to the swollen rashes around my joints; I had to stay overnight in a hospital as my family do not have a history of psoriasis so it took the doctors ages to diagnose what the rashes were; I was in a lot of pain. On the back of that, I started to really consider the products I was using on my skin. Bare Minerals is so gorgeous and light on the skin so I knew it would be a winner. It was the following Christmas that my Mum and I were shopping in Debenhams and were drawn to the make-up stand and I purchased my beginners kit. Since then, I have not used anything else as a foundation on my skin. So, when QVC happened to have a special day value consisting of these seven gorgeous products for the bargain price of around £40, I knew I had to have it. These were the products, and my honest opinions of them, included in the kit.
Original SPF15 Foundation
This stuff if my holy grail for foundation. Like I mentioned previously, it is the only thing I use on my face. It is so lightweight yet it covers blemishes so well. I have never really gotten along with liquid foundations. For me, they feel far too cakey on my face. This mineral foundation is perfect and creates such lovely looking skin. Using the swirl and tap method which Bare Minerals promote, this foundation really works for me. I know it sounds really “braggy” but I have always had good skin in terms of not really having spots. The only thing that I have trouble with is the fact that I get black circles under my eyes and obviously my psoriasis (saying that I never for a psoriasis rash on my face, it was only on my body). Overall, this foundation is amazing and I could not recommend it more.
Mineral Veil Finishing Powder
I had never used this product before but I was very excited to finally get my hands on it. It is a powder which locks in the make-up whilst providing an air-brushed look to the skin. I find that it really evens out my skin and adds a slight glow to my skin which I love. Sometimes, I used to put a bit too much of my foundation minerals on which would look a bit powdery on my face, but now that I have this product, I can use it instead of over-using my foundation. I love adding it under my eyes to really give me that extra brightness to combat those horrible dark circles.
Bare Radiance All-Over Face Colour
I did not think that I would use this product much in my daily routine. I have to be honest, I do not really understand “contouring” and “highlighting” but this product makes it so easy for me. On the QVC demonstration, the lady applied the product using an E shape on the side of the face. This makes contouring a lot easier for me as someone who is not a make-up expert. It says on the website that it helps soften the appearance of shadows and discolouration which I would agree with – it really has impressed me as a product and I do not think I could go without it.
This is amazing. In my beginners kit, I received a small primer which I adored. I then bought a bigger version of it, reduced, from QVC which again I loved but this one had a clear formula. This new primer is coloured which acts a bit as a concealer. I tend to focus on under my eyes, once again, as this is my problem area. I find that it really helps keep my make-up in place throughout my busy (and sweaty) day. I also love how this primer is SPF30 which helps protect the face from sun rays. I am starting to get older which means I really want to take care of my skin and this primer is perfect for this.
At first, I was apprehensive about this product. For me, my go-to under eye product is either Benefit’s Erase Paste or Boing (more likely to be erase paste as that product is just so fab at covering my bags). However, this product is actually really lovely. Rather than being the concealer that I thought it would be, it is actually a brightener (duh) and really helps me look a bit more awake on those days where I feel like a zombie from Night of the Living Dead. I use this straight after I have applied my mineral foundations and then I apply the mineral veil over the top to really lock it into place and brighten my complexion.
Lip Quickie Glossy
I was so excited to receive this lip gloss stick. It is the perfect Autumnal nude shade and just looked really fab. However, I am pretty disappointed. It is a nice colour but I find the formula itself to be not very long lasting. It probably lasts around about an hour before it is pretty much vanished from my lips. Despite this, it is a lovely shade and if you have the time to keep re-applying it then I am sure it would be a great lip gloss stick.
Double-Ended Buff and Conceal Brush
I recently had to discard of my original Bare Minerals brush due to general wear and tear and the fact that I really did not used to look after my brushes. I never cleaned them whereas now I make sure I clean them regularly to keep them soft – it is also better for your skin! This brush is lovely and I use it for applying the All-Over Face Colour and the Eye Brightener. This double-ended brush is perfect for these two products. I do prefer using my real techniques brush for my mineral foundation and I use my other Bare Minerals brush for my mineral veil. This is a lovely brush but rather small so I find it good for getting in those cheekbones with the All-Over Face Colour. Again, I use that Bare Minerals swirl and tap method and I am good to go.
Overall, I could not recommend Bare Minerals more to you all. It may be a tad more pricey but sometimes I think it is worth it for such an amazing product. Also, the tubs last me a year which makes it the perfect Christmas gift to receive every year from my parents.
